Thanksgiving day
History
About 100 people from England called Pilgrims was really badly treated because of their religion. They went to USA with weak equipment. The Pilgrims met some Indians and they made friends. In 1621, the Pilgrims had their first Thanksgiving party with their indian friends. They ate food that they had grown and wild turkey. They had a lot to be thankful for, they survived and they had not been killed. They had not died of hunger.
Today
They celebrate it in the fourth Thursday in November. American usually have big family party. School and offices ar closed and people travel long distance to see their family.
They eat turkey with potatoes and vegetables followed by pumpkin pie. The other in the family usually thank god for the things that they have. After the dinner its always a big football game on TV.
Halloween
All souls day is used to be on the 13th of May. But Pope George IV moved it to the 2nd November. Som people say that he did it to stop people from celebrating Samahain.
All Hollows’ day is on the 1st of November. It was created by Pope Bonface IV. You remember all the people who have died but did not become saints.
All Samahain's day is on the 31st of October. Now its called Halloween.
The celtic people in Britain had a festival called Samahain. They built bonfires on top of the hills to scare away evil spirits. Young men went ot all the houses and asked for food to the Gods and wood for the bonfires. They where dressed like witches or ghosts because they where scared and to scare away the spirits. This was the start of ”trick or treat”.

Kids are dressed like ghost or witches and goes around an says ”trick or treat”. People say treat and treat them with candy, fruit and sometimes money. If they say trick the kids play a trick on them like trowing eggs on their window.
